Title:
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Object ID:
2017.037
Object Name:
Bell, Ship's
Description:
A bronze ship's bell (from unspecified source) mounted on a custom-made display stand with a wooden sign bearing "HS Syros" in Greek and a plaque describing the intention of the memorial. The sign is set below the bell on the back of the frame while the plaque is attached to a central pillar on the frame. The frame itself is made of metal (likely steel) and painted blue. The plaque explains that the memorial is titled "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (with permission from Scribner/Simon & Schuster New York, Publisher of Hemingway's novel of the same title), was created presented to the LST-325 by the Ship's Company of LST-733, and is dedicated to all who served aboard and/or died in service to LSTs during World War II.
