Title:
U.S.S. LST-552
Object ID:
2017.009.065
Object Name:
Print, Photographic
Description:
Black & white print of a photograph showing LST-552 underway in an unknown location in the Pacific with the bow doors open and ramp partially lowered, suggesting the ship is either approaching a landing site. The ship appears to have vehicles or cargo on the main deck and a pontoon bridge segments mounted on its starboard side. Both davits are lowered and the LCVPs launched for landing operations. Two other LSTs, LST-736 and an unidentified LST, are visible in the background and appear to be making approaches to the same landing zone while a number of smaller craft (LCVPS, LCMs, LCAs) are sailing away from the assumed shore. The ship's number is stamped in gold lettering at the bottom and "Our Navy Photos, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217" is printed in the bottom right corner.
