This online exhibit focuses on the shipyards that built Landing Ships, Tank. Perhaps the most famous of these were the "cornfield" and "prairie shipyards", so-named for the nontraditional locations along inland rivers in such cities as Seneca, IL and Evansville and Jeffersonville, IN in the Midwest and Pittsburgh and Ambridge, PA in the Eastern United States.
