Object ID:
2017.009.113
Object Name:
Print, Photographic
Date:
12/1944
Description:
Black & white print of a photograph showing LST-967 (U.S.S. Ulysses [ARB-9]) underway in an unknown location in 1944. Records indicate that, while the ship was originally authorized as LST-967, it was redesignated as ARB-9 (Battle Damage Repair Ship) prior to construction. After launching the ship was sailed from Hingham, MA to Baltimore, MD for complete conversion. This photograph appears to have been taken during that transit, as it would be the only time it would have possibly used the number "967" and looked as other LSTs did. The main deck does not appear to be loaded. The ship's number is stamped in gold lettering near the bottom and "Our Navy Photos" is printed in the bottom right corner.
