Description:
Photograph of 5 LSTs, only LST-404 has a visible number, being loaded with troops and equipment at the docks of Palermo, Sicily in preparation for the invasion of mainland Italy. The tower of LCI-235 is just visible in the background on the right. Photo taken on September 14, 1943. Several barrage balloons can be seen floating above the LSTs to act as protection from enemy aircraft.
