Title:
LST-753 Moored at Martins Ferry, OH
Object ID:
2017.014.02
Object Name:
Video, Digital
Date:
June or July, 1944
Scope & Content:
A digital copy of a black & white video originally taken on 8mm film, showing LST-753 moored at Martins Ferry, OH on the Ohio River shortly after its launching on 10 June, 1944. The ship is headed toward New Orleans, LA, on the Mississippi River, for final outfitting and crew assignment before traveling through the Panama Canal to join Allied forces in the Pacific Theater. The Landing Ship, Tank's number is visible around the 1-minute mark and confirms the ship's identity as LST-753. The camoflage paint scheme indicates the ship was meant for service in the Pacific Theater. It is unclear why LST-753 stopped at/near Martins Ferry, OH and seemingly allowed civilians aboard.
