LST Photograph Collection : Photographs of all U.S. LSTs (Landing Ship, Tank) excluding LST-325
Title:
LSTs Landing Print
Object ID:
2016.295.10
Object Name:
Print, Photographic
Description:
A framed photographic print of three LSTs (possibly LST-82, LST-320, and LST-478 but unclear due to conflicting records) on a beach during a landing (training?) in World War II. The landing site appears to be a relatively small beach along a rocky coastline, the location of which is unknown, though possibly along the eastern coast of the United States near Little Creek, VA. Several smaller craft including LCVPs, a DUKW, and temporary bridge pieces can also be seen.

A heavily faded or very faint message can be seen written in cursive over the water near the bottom right corner. The message states (in formatting of that on the photograph):

"To the Missouri Valley Bridge and
Iron Co., Shipbuilding Division,
from the Amphibious Training
Command, Atlantic Fleet.
F.W. Rockwell
Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy,
Commanding"
