Print, Photographic

Description:
Black & white print of a photograph showing LST-1176 (U.S.S. Graham County) anchored in an unknown location. LST-1171 is a member of the De Soto County Class LSTs and thus features some key differences from previous classes of the ships (see catalog item 2017.009.162 for details). This photograph was taken shortly after launching at the Newport News shipbuilding & Dry Dock Corp. in Newport News, VA on 9 Sept., 1957. As such, the ship has not yet been fitted with much of its main deck and superstructure equipment, including the davits and AA guns. The main deck does not appear to be loaded. "Graham CO. LST-1176" is written in the bottom right corner in red ink. The back features several stamps detailing ownership (Official U.S. Navy in blue/purple, Our Navy, Inc. in black, and U.S. Naval Institute in red) as well as writing in pencil.

The ship's name (spelled "DESOTA") is stamped in gold lettering near the bottom and "Our Navy Photos, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217" is printed in the bottom right corner.
